I haven't lost my mind, I gave it the day off.

Upon the recommendation of a friend last year, I bought a Stanley Speed Square. He told me I'd be using it all the time and I'd 'eventually feel lost without it.' Well, thus far, I've not used it much, and I'm wondering what I'm missing out on. It seems like every task it can do, my combination square does better and easier.

Do you have a speed square, and what do you use it for?

I watched Tommy Silva use one for years. I tried one but only ever used the square & meiter "function". Its just made to do too much includeing takeing the place of a rafter / roofing square. I guess its handier for a contractor whos doing all those things. For me it "wanted" to do too much and none of it well. I'm still just a "specific" (right) tool for the specific (right) task. Combo square, roofing square, sliding bevel.

I own 2 a regular one and a huge one. I never took the time to learn what the magic is. I use them as squares. The huge one I use for a saw guide. Maybe I should have read the manual

ROFL ! Not long ago I DID break down and read enough to figure out the "board feet" chart on my roofing square ! Seemed like something that might be neat for the "eccentric artist" to be able to amaze his freinds with. Haven't found anyone to amaze yet though.
